Brazil Weather Brazil accounts for virtually half the land mass of South America and has thousands of miles of coast. There are four main climactic regions: the Amazon Basin, which everyone thinks of as typical steamy rainforest, although much of the region does have a dry season; the southern states, which have hot summers, with 8-9 hours sunshine each day, but can be cold at other times; the Brazilian Plateau, which includes Brazilia, has distinct wet and dry seasons; and the coastlands within the tropics, from south of the Amazon down to Rio de Janeiro, which enjoy a hot tropical climate that will delight anyone looking for a beach holiday with plenty of sunshine. Weather in Brazil - Hot sun, warm sea, hot samba Although some will want to take a boat trip up the Amazon or visit the magnificent Iguaco Falls, most visitors to Brazil will head either for Rio or the coastal resorts further north, including Salvador, Brazil’s original capital city, and the resorts of the Bahia region. Salvador enjoys maximum December to February temperatures of 29°C and eight hours of sunshine each day. A gentle Atlantic breeze and sea temperatures that rise from 23°C in July to 27°C in January and February make this area perfect for beach holidays and water sports. And temperatures are guaranteed to rise when Carnaval de Bahia, which is even larger than Rio’s, takes place each February.
Brazil Weather - A 4,500-mile coastline with plenty of winter sun The weather is consistently warm all year round along the coast of the Bahia and Northeastern regions, with temperatures never dropping much below 30°C, but there can be a lot of rain from April to September in Bahia and from March to August in the Northeast (Although Natal, the city of the sun, still has over 300 days of sunshine each year). Further south in Rio, however, November to April are the wettest months. Here, the temperatures rise from 25°C in June-September to 30°C in January and February. With over 4,500 miles of coastline, and many superb beaches Brazil is a fabulous holiday destination all year, and is particularly attractive for anyone looking for some winter sun.
