Beaches
Home to some stunning stretches of sand, the beaches around the bay are the main attraction in Bodrum, and offer the ideal location for peaceful relaxation, sunbathing and swimming, as well as active water sports. Some of the best beaches to visit include Karaincir, Akyarlar, Turgetreis and Gumusluk.

Boat trips
With the lively marina the hub of the town, sailing is a way of life in the Bodrum Peninsula, with plenty of opportunity to cruise along the spectacular shoreline in a yacht or enjoy a famed Blue Cruise in a traditional wooden gulet. Located on the Aegean coast just opposite the Greek Islands, ferry trips are also offered to Kos and Rhodes.

Water sports
As well as sailing and boating, the beaches are ideal for other water sports, with many beaches offering facilities ranging from jet skiing, canoeing and banana boats to surfing, wind surfing, water skiing, parasailing, scuba diving and snorkelling.

Sports and activities
Away from the water, the Bodrum region offers activities such as tennis and golf, horse riding in the valleys, and river rafting on the Dalaman river. Walking and hiking in the cooler spring months are a scenic way to explore the inland regions, with off-road jeep safaris an exciting way of discovering sights off the beaten track.

Nightlife
Vibrant and diverse, the nightlife in Bodrum town offers a stylish scene, being home to a wide variety of clubs, discos and bars. With its buzzing atmosphere, Bodrum comes alive after dark, becoming quite crowded during the summer months. For those looking for a little more peace and quiet, the Bodrum Peninsula is home to many traditional Turkish villages, with a much slower and tranquil pace of life.

Shopping
WIth its rich history of Turkish crafts, Bodrum is the perfect place for some serious shopping or browsing. The bazaar quarter is home to traditional shops, selling everything from carpets and rugs, to leather, silver, pottery and embroidery, and colourful local markets offering an array of local produce and spices.

Interesting sites
Steeped in ancient history, the Bodrum region is home to some fascinating sites and ancient ruins, including the site of King Mausolous' Tomb, Bodrum Castle, the Amphitheatre, and the underwater city of Mindos. Visit the famous Turtle Beach at Dalyan, and experience the cleansing mud baths, or travel further afield to see the ancient city of Ephesus or the calcified rocks at Pummukale.
