Bermuda Holidays

Bermuda Holidays - British colony in the Atlantic, known for its pink-sand beaches
Lying just off the coast of the USA in the Atlantic Ocean, north of the Caribbean, Bermuda offers a unique destination for a relaxing beach holiday, and features gorgeous pink-sand beaches, interesting historical sites, sunny golf courses and exceptional diving conditions. There's still plenty of British tradition found throughout Bermuda, in the quaint cottages and daily afternoon tea, and the island boasts a tranquil and romantic atmosphere, making it a popular choice for honeymooners and those looking for a luxury base in the sun. With its colonial heritage and sunny tropical climes, Bermuda has a diverse culture to experience, with this tiny and fairly isolated island boasting a laid-back way of life and plenty of Old World charm.

Holidays in Bermuda - Ideal for a quiet beach holiday, with excellent scuba-diving and golf
Although Bermuda consists of a group of 138 islands, the name usually refers to the main island, which is divided up into 9 parishes. Most of the accommodation is located along the southern shores, with the west of the island remaining green and rural, and full of wildlife reserves, verdant woods and scenic waterways. Famous beaches on Bermuda include Elbow Beach and Horseshoe Bay, and although many of the hotels and cottages have their own private stretches, there are plenty of public beaches, and numerous hidden coves and idyllic bays to discover. Coral reefs offer fantastic scuba-diving and snorkelling conditions, and there is excellent sailing around the island. Away from the beaches, the island is green and lush, and there are various nature walks to enjoy, such as the Bermuda Railway Trail, or Spittal Pond Nature Reserve. Visitors can head out to explore by bike or scooter, as there is no car rental allowed on the island, although public transport is generally very good, and there are ferries that travel all around the islands.

Bermuda Holidays - Plenty of historic sites and attractions on this tiny island
Places to visit include the charming capital, Hamilton, the only city on the island, boasting a harbour, lively shopping area, and the famous Birdcage where Bermuda short-clad policemen direct the traffic, as well as the town of St. George's, named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of the main tourist attractions in Bermuda is the Royal Naval Dockyard in Sandy's Parish, which was in operation from 1809 until 1951 as a stronghold for Britain, and has now been turned into a village with shops, restaurants and galleries housed in the historic buildings, a Maritime Museum, and a beach. Other sights to see include the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo, the Botanical Gardens, and the Crystal Caves.  Book a holiday now with directline-holidays.
