Beach
The beach at Benalmadena stretches for 9km along the Costa del Sol in Spain, and offers sun-worshippers a range of facilities, from lifeguards, sun beds and umbrellas to bars and cafes on the attractive promenade behind. The main sand and shingle beach at Benalmadena Costa is the busiest, but there are quieter rocky coves and inlets along the coast for more peaceful sunbathing.
Marina
The award-winning marina at Benalmadena is busy and bustling, and houses a sailing centre, an aquarium, and a host of waterfront bars and cafes in which to relax. Boats can be rented here, and there are regular trips to Fuengirola and Torremolinos, as well as catamaran cruises and deep-sea fishing excursions.
Water Sports
For active guests, scuba diving, waterskiing, sailing, wakeboarding and kayaking can be enjoyed at the resort.
Golf
The whole of the Costa del Sol is a golfer's paradise, known for its quality courses, fine weather and stunning scenery and visitors to Benalmadena can choose from a number of local courses in the area.
Sports
Tennis, volleyball, karting, clay pigeon shooting and pitch-and-putting is available, whilst the more adventurous can try canyoning, quad biking, off-road buggy riding and paintball.
Cable Car
A major attraction in Benalmadena, the cable car takes visitors up to 800m above sea level, offering fantastic views along the coastline and out across the sea to Gibraltar and Africa. Donkey rides are available at the summit to take passengers on tours of the area, and there is also a Bird Sanctuary at the top. Many active passengers choose to make the scenic descent on foot or on mountain bike.
Tivoli World
This local entertainment centre is the largest on the Costa del Sol, and features plenty of rides and attractions, as well as gardens and fountains, and theatres hosting concerts and shows.
Town Sights
There are a number of museums and monuments in Benalmadena which celebrate the town's rich Moorish history, and the resort is home to a weekly flea market. The traditional part of the resort, Benalmadena Pueblo, offers a change from the hustle and bustle of the beachfront, with this picturesque and well-preserved village featuring narrow cobbled streets and flower-filled window boxes, great for strolls or leisurely meals in a charming setting.
Exploring
The whole area is a delight to explore, whether touring by car, or experiencing the beauty of the Spanish countryside close up by hiking, biking or on horseback. There are numerous traditional whitewashed towns to visit, whilst Andalucian cities such as Seville and Grenada are interesting day trips, with plenty of history and culture, as well as great shopping and dining.
