Bastia Things To Do

things to do in Bastia
Fishing and Boating Port
The Old Port of Bastia (Vieux Port) is easily the most photogenic part of the town of Bastia. You can sit and watch the yachts, some worth millions, and soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful port. There are several outstanding seafood restaurants located by the seafront, as well as bars that come to life after sunset. Local fishing boats are also available for hiring to go on boat trips or to fish. Boats of variable sizes and prices are available to rent. A stroll around the old port with its 19th century Italian style buildings will remind you that you are on a Mediterranean island.

Old Town of Bastia
Terra Vecchia is the old town of Bastia. This area is bordered by beautiful ships on one side and there are several restaurants and cafes on the other side. Palm trees are in the line along the roads and streets that make a very beautiful view for visitors. Flower beds and the lush green surroundings attract many to this area of Bastia. Hidden treasures are said to be found in every corner of the area.

Museum
The 15th-century palace, which overlooks the port, houses the Musee d' Ethnographic Corse. The museum displays geological and archaeological artefacts, and other details of the island's rich history. Condemned Resistance fighter's cells are on display, as is the 18th-century rebel flag. Just behind the palace, a French submarine that was used in the Resistance is also available for examination.

Church
The ornately decorated Eglise de la Conception Church lies within Terra Vecchia, and, on well-lit day, these gold, marble, and wood-laden walls become an exquisite sight. The interior of this church was constructed in the 18th century, and although it is amazingly beautiful, the structure is poorly lit. If you plan on viewing the vibrantly painted ceiling, make sure the sun is shining brightly outdoors.

Eating Out
Restaurants of Bastia are popular due to its varieties of foods and taste. Bastia offers a range of tasty treats at a very low price. Restaurants of Bastia offer traditional Corsican specialties including Figatellu which is a pork dish. Visitors can eat dishes including fried sausages and prisutu, a type of smoked ham. Cheese pancakes of goat’s origin are also so popular. Different varieties of fishes are available.

Festivals and Events
Bastia has many festivals and cultural events all over the year. Bastia Music Festival is held every year in October, offers something for everyone, with music genres spanning classical to jazz and blues. The popular Arte Mare festival celebrates the cultural life of the Mediterranean with book stalls, concerts, movie previews and art exhibitions. The annual Italian film festival in January sees hordes of movie enthusiasts fly in from all over Europe. Easter Good Friday sees the traditional Procession of the Black Christ through the citadel.
