Weather in Barbados
With its white sand, turquoise sea and swaying palm trees, Barbados is most people’s idea of a tropical paradise. And for most of the year that’s just what it is. A tropical paradise where the temperature rises each day to 30°C or thereabouts, the sun is always shining and the sea is warmed to a minimum of 25°C.
Weather in Barbados - Enjoy winter sun in a tropical paradise
High season in Barbados is from mid-December to mid-April when there is little rain and humidity is lower as the cooling trade winds come in from the northeast, so that 28-30°C is perfect for the beach and not too hot for exploring. Evenings are a little cooler with the average temperature falling to 21-23°C and the breeze stirring the air enough to ensure a good night’s sleep. May is still dry but the humidity does begin to creep up. Barbados is small and relatively flat; the central highland region does rise to around 336 metres above sea level and is slightly cooler and wetter, but otherwise there is little variation from one part of the island to another, except that the west, including Bridgetown, is somewhat sheltered from the prevailing winds.
Barbados weather - Hot and sunny, even in the rainy season
Even in the rainy season, from June to November, the temperatures are just as warm and there are still eight or nine hours of sun each day. Hurricane season is officially from June 1 to October 31, but Barbados, set to the east of the other Caribbean islands, is usually spared the worst of the storms. When it rains, it is often in the form of a spectacular tropical storm, which is over very quickly, leaving the sun shining once more. The rain rapidly drains off into underground lakes or the sea, and it is only the fact that the air feels much fresher that reveals that any rain has fallen at all.
