Bamburi Beach Things To Do

The long beach is the main attraction here, with its pale sands and palm trees creating a natural setting with a relaxed atmosphere. The offshore reef means safe swimming in the calm shallow waters of the Indian Ocean.

 

Plenty of choice for water sports enthusiasts, with facilities including snorkelling, jet-skiing, water-skiing, windsurfing and kayaking. There are PADI-certified scuba-diving schools and the chance to enjoy a sailing trip, with visitors also able to enjoy glass-bottomed boat trips out to the reef.

 

Winter is the best time for a deep-sea fishing expedition in Bamburi Beach, with December to March seeing ideal conditions for catching local fish such as groupers, lobsters and lionfish.

 

The hotels have swimming pools, and offer games such as volleyball and darts. Golf is available at the Nyali Golf Club, and there is go-carting in Mombassa.  

 

The local shops and markets sell a good range of gifts and souvenirs, which range from clothing such as 'kangas' (Swahili sarongs), cottons and blankets, to locally-made wood and soapstone carvings, baskets, beaded necklaces and other jewellery.

 

One of the most popular attractions is Baobab Adventure, which offers the chance for viewings of local animals such as giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, ostriches and oryx. You can go mountain biking, hiking and nature walks along the scenic forest trails, and a host of farms and sanctuaries to tour.

 

Game parks such as Tsava East and West National Parks in Kenya offer safaris and viewings of elephants, lions, hippos and zebras, whilst Bamburi Quarry Nature Reserve is ideal for hiking. The Mamba Crocodile Farm at Nyali is home to over 10,000 of the species, and children will also enjoy family fun at the water park at Kenyatta Beach. Mombassa Beach is an interesting day trip for a true taste of vibrant African life, and the Bombolu Cultural Centre offers displays of tribal dancing.
