Bakau Things To Do

Beaches
Bakau boasts a more traditional, laid back African beach located on the Atlantic coastline. Bakau Beach is a beautifully unspoilt beach, home to both sun lovers and traditional fishermen. This stretch of the coastline is also home to some of the most famous beaches in Gambia such as Kotu, Kololi, and Bijilo. With beaches as stunning as these it’s not hard to see why some holiday makers never leave the beach during the day.

Excursions & Trips
Holiday makers who can drag themselves from the beach can find a number of excursions and trips in Bakau. A day out in Gambia’s capital city of Banjul will reward holiday makers with a charming city full of cultural treasures such as the National Museum and the African Heritage Centre. Banjul’s Albert Market is the place to pick up some local hand made goods, jewellery, and clothes. Haggling at the market is fun and can usually reduce the price by 50%.

Day Trips
Trips up the Gambia River to spot the crocodiles from the safety of a boat will provide holiday makers with some amazing photographic opportunities. There are a number of wildlife parks in the area such as Bijilo Park and Baboon Island that provide beautiful scenery for hikers. Trips from Banjul Island to the mainland can also be made on traditional pirogues; skinny wooden boats with motors.

Sports
Water sports are a big part of daily live in Bakau thanks to the amazing climate. Windsurfing, body boarding, swimming, and snorkelling in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean are just a few of the many water sports available. Land based sports can include golf, tennis, beach volleyball and croquet.
