Weather in the Bahamas
The Bahamas enjoys a sub-tropical climate with an average of around 320 days of sunshine each year. With this much sun, temperatures that stay warm all year and crystal clear turquoise sea that never falls below 23°C, it is easy to see why this is such a popular holiday destination. The weather is perfect for beach holidays and water sports, yet it is not so hot that it deters visitors from exploring the many sights that these seven hundred islands – around forty of which are inhabited - have to offer.

Bahamas Weather - Perfect for a winter sun holiday
Factors such as the Gulf Stream and the constant trade winds help keep the weather constant throughout the Bahamas, with the northern islands being just a little cooler due to their proximity to North America. December to May is the high season, with temperatures between 25°C and 27°C during the day and 18°C to 24°C at night. The steady breeze helps keep the temperature comfortable.

Weather in the Bahamas - Paradise islands with year-round sun
The rainy season in the Bahamas is from May to November. Although even in September, the wettest month, there is still an average of seven hours sun each day. The northern islands receive around twice as much rain as those to the south but the rain here tends be heavy showers or thunderstorms which soon clear to leave the air feeling fresher. Like all countries in the Caribbean Basin, the Bahamas can be troubled by hurricanes. Hurricane season is late summer and autumn, and although the islands are affected every three years or so, direct hits tend to occur less than once a decade. Many travellers, attracted by the year-round sun and stunning beauty of the islands, visit in the spring or early summer, and with satellite forecasts generally giving plenty of warning of approaching hurricanes, June to November can also be extremely pleasant with plenty of sunshine and fewer people.
The Islands of the Bahamas archipelago has been identified by NASA as having some of the most beautiful waters on earth. The waters are virtually free of pollution, making them among the clearest and most colourful to be found anywhere. The depth of the water, coral heads and sunlight are ultimately responsible for its incandescent colours.
