Arrecife Holidays – A small friendly city with a long seafaring tradition
Holidays in Arrecife are based in the capital of Lanzarote; a small friendly animated city set around an attractive natural harbour surrounded by small islands and reefs. Arrecife is in the middle of the south coast of the island, a short transfer from Lanzarote airport. The town features typically excellent sandy Lanzarote beaches but offers a much more authentic experience of life on the island. Arrecife is less touristy than the major Lanzarote beach resorts.

Arrecife Holidays – Two good stretches of fine sand

Arrecife has been the island capital since the end of the 18th century and has pleasant parks and impressive town houses open to the public. Visitors here should take a look at fortress of San Gabriel and the 18th century San Jose castle which houses a museum of contemporary art. Holidays in Arrecife tend to centre on the main beaches. An attractive seafront promenade links El Reducto beach with El Cable beach to the west. Arrecife beaches have fine pale sand and exceptionally calm clear water. Arrecife beach has a coveted EU Blue Flag for cleanliness. The other main highlight of the resort is the Charco de San Gines, a saltwater lagoon in the middle of the city with colourful fishing boats and an atmospheric picturesque neighbourhood of fisherman’s houses. Arrecife offers a plentiful supply of unpretentious cafes, bars, restaurants, and shops around the city’s main street. The nightlife is not entirely geared to visiting tourists and if you are lucky your break will coincide with one of the city’s lively colourful festivals.

Arrecife Holidays –Excellent connections to popular Lanzarote beaches
Visitors to Arrecife could take advantage of the island’s best transport connections to visit the Lanzarote beach resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Matagordas and Playa de Porcillos to the west and Costa Teguise to the east. Arrecife’s central location on the south coast means that Arrecife makes a fine base for exploring the rest of Lanzarote with its extraordinary volcanic landscapes. The town is well placed for trips north to the fishing villages of Orzola and Arrieta and the extraordinary volcanic lava caves at Cuerva de los Verdes and Jameos de Agua. Breaks here could include a trip to the picturesque inland town of Tahiche and the lovely village of Tias with its typical Canarian bars and restaurants. Arrecife is also ideally placed for a visit to Guatiza with its cactus garden, and Teguise, the former capital of Lanzarote.
