The beach, Forte Sao Joao, is long and sandy and perfect for lazy days in the sun and just 2 km from the centre of Albufiera. The walk back to the town from the beaches is up quite a steep incline, and the whole resort is rather hilly. There is a huge choice of beaches to visit whilst staying in Areias Sao Joao, all with fine golden sands and protected by the characteristic sandstone cliffs of the Algarve. Just minutes from Areias Sao Joao is the popular ‘Golden Beach’, Praia d’Oura, with its’ wide curved bay, and abundance of watersports including windsurfing, water-skiing and parascending, with fun activities such as jet-skiing and banana boat rides on offer. Other great sandy beaches to visit in the area include Olhos d’Agua and Santa Eulalia.

Areias Sao Joao is a fantastic location for those looking for lively nightlife. The newer section of Albufeira, with its’ busy centre commonly known as ‘The Strip’ is extremely close by, and here you’ll find a huge selection of English bars, clubs and fast-food restaurants, all catering for the many tourists that visit. Albufeira has a quieter side, the Old Town, with its’ picturesque harbour, cobbled streets and local restaurants, for those in search of a little more tradition. Arieas Sao Joao is close to the major family attractions of the area, including Zoomarine, Krazyworld and the Slide & Splash Waterpark.
