Antalya holidays - azure sea and fragrant pine-clad mountains
Antalya on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey is a popular family holiday destination throughout the year. In the winter it’s possible to ski in nearby Saklikent Canyon, but the major attraction here are the beautiful beaches and warm waters of the Med, making Antalya an ideal spot for a beach holiday. Because Antalya is an ancient city, you will enjoy the atmospheric old town, the fascinating harbour and the traditional Turkish architecture found here - typically shuttered, flower-clad houses rising along the narrow streets. The backdrop to Antalya - the Taurus Mountains, famed for their pine forests - is as stunning as its attractive, restaurant-lined seafront. Antalya International airport is just 10 km out of town, making the resort extremely accessible.
Antalya holidays - Turkish Riviera at its best
The stretch of coast around Antalya is known as the Turkish Riviera. It’s characterised by gentile seafront resorts, small fishing villages, swaying palm trees, safe, sandy beaches and clear waters. In and around Antalya are many excellent beaches. Some hotels have direct access onto central Mermerli Beach, while 2 km away is Blue Flag-awarded Konyaaltu Beach and 6 km away is popular Lara Beach. Antalya is a well-established resort centre, so hotels range from five star luxury featuring spas and health clubs, through comfortable four and three star, many located in Antalya’s modern centre. Views of the mountains and sea are breath-taking, and most hotels boast Mediterranean-style gardens with fruit trees and swimming pools.
Antalya holiday - activities on the doorstep
Beyond beach fun with your family, Antalya has many other attractions. At Antalya Museum you can discover the city’s long history from Roman to Byzantine to Seljuk and Ottoman occupation. A journey into the Saklikent Canyon is also fascinating, while Cirali, known as the ‘burning mountain’, and Düden waterfall are within easy reach if you have a hire car. Golfers will enjoy the National Golf Club, just outside the city, and for the ultimate seaside treat, why not take your family on a boat trip along the coast beyond Antalya. For low-key relaxation in Antalya, head to the old harbour to enjoy a strong Turkish coffee, or try the local fish specialities at a restaurant in the old town.
