Amoudara Holidays – Popular seaside resort close to the capital and airport
Amoudara holidays are set in a largely purpose-built resort with something to offer most age groups and holiday styles. Amoudara is a developing popular resort on the north coast of Crete and is on the outskirts of Heraklion, the island’s capital. Heraklion airport is just 5 miles away. The resort runs for around a mile alongside an excellent 3-mile long sandy beach popular with swimmers. Visitors enjoy a lively resort with good beaches and the benefits of the capital Heraklion for transport to other parts of Crete. Breaks here have all the benefits of Heraklion close to hand as it is within the capital’s public transport system and is served by regular buses making the 15-minute journey.

The main attraction in Amoudara is the superb beach with miles of good sand, popular with both Heraklion locals and tourists. Amoudara beach has an EU blue flag in recognition of its clean water. Watersports are a popular activity, with windsurfing being a particular favourite. Amoudara has a large selection of bars, tavernas and restaurants to choose from, many close to the beach. This is a busy and bustling seaside resort with lots of shops and restaurants and a couple of places for late-night action, though discos are modest in comparison with places like Malia.

Holiday in Amoudara – A good base for Crete exploration
Being the capital, nearby Heraklion is a superb transport centre, making Amoudara a good base for exploration of the entire island of Crete. Favourite excursions include Heraklion archaeological museum, the historic Venetian town of Chania, the Minoan palace at Knossos and Spinalonga Island, though just about everywhere can be reached from here.
