Altura Weather - A Mediterranean-type climate
Altura holidays are virtually guaranteed glorious summers and mild winters. Situated on the east of the Algarve, it enjoys a Mediterranean-type climate and is slightly warmer than the west. Known as the Sotavento (or leeward) side of the coast, the area around Altura is perfect for family beach holidays, although there are one or two places that attract windsurfers. In fact there is a gentle sea breeze that makes the temperature feel a little cooler than it really is and helps moderate the humidity. Temperatures can rise towards 40°C in high summer, although the average high is more like 28°C.

Altura has over 300 days of sunshine each year with some of the longest sunshine hours in Europe – 12 hours a day from June to August. Rain is virtually unknown in high summer and the sea here is the warmest in the Algarve, reaching around 24°C, thanks to the sheltered position and gently sloping sands. The main holiday season extends from June to September, and this is when the beaches will be watched over by lifeguards, but even as the season comes to an end there’s plenty of sun and September temperatures still average a gloriously hot 26°C.

Altura Weather – Beautiful in spring, pleasant all year round
It’s not only migratory birds that like to spend winters here. Altura in winter – if it can be called that – is pleasantly warm and sunny most of the time. Rainy season is November to March and the coldest month is January. However, even then the average daily temperature reaches 15°C, which, although not warm enough for sunbathing, is pleasant enough to enjoy a round of golf, a game of tennis or a bike ride. The Algarve is already beginning to blossom at the start of the year and by spring it is a sight to behold, with trees and flowers in bloom and temperatures of 20°C by April.
