Altea la Vella Things To Do
Town
This quaint hillside town of Altea la Vella is a lovely quiet base with plenty of traditional character and a stunning countryside setting. There are a number of tapas bars, cafes and restaurants to visit, and little shops in which to browse.
Altea
Visit Altea for the beach, its lively harbour and a bustling promenade. The local church with its bright blue roof is an impressive landmark, and boasts spectacular views out across the coastline, and the Old Town, with its cobbled streets and artisan's studios and workshops is charming. Altea is also home to a museum and cultural centre.
Beaches
Shingle beaches located nearby include the 6km stretch at Altea, and feature spots such as Playa de Cap Negret, Playa del Mascarat and Playa de la Olla, with the sandy beaches at Calpe ideal for a family day out.
Water Sports
Altea offers water sport facilities from two centres on its beach, with guests able to indulge in windsurfing, water skiing, scuba diving and sailing. Fishing trips along the Costa Blanca coastline are offered, with local boat trips departing from Altea marina.
Golf
Golfers can enjoy a round at Don Cayo Golf Club, a well-kept 9-hole course that offers spectacular views across the Mediterranean.
Countryside
Exploring the surrounding rural area makes for a change from the beach, with visitors able to head out on foot, on horseback or by bicycle. The countryside is full of pine forests, almond trees and citrus groves, with the Waterfalls of Algar a popular spot, with natural pools to swim in.
Day Trips
For busy nightlife and entertainment, head to Benidorm, just 10km away, but for more traditional flavour, visit some of the smaller local towns and villages around, such as La Nucia, home to a colourful local market held every Sunday, and the cliff top village of Guadalest.
Theme Parks
Families can head out to a variety of local parks, such as Aqualandia Water Park, Vergel Safari Park, the animal water park at Mundomar and the large theme park, Tierra Mitica, in Benidorm.
