Almirida Weather

The fishing village of Almirida lies around 25 km west of Chania, and experiences a typically-Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. With its wonderful beaches, conditions are ideal for a relaxing family holiday with plenty of swimming and sunbathing, and the resort sees average daytime highs in the summer months of between 27C - 29C. Thanks to the southerly location of Crete, Almirida enjoys a longer-than-average tourist season that runs from April to October.  

 

Early and late in the season is a wonderful time to visit the region, as the weather is warm and sunny, but not too hot, and a great time to explore the countryside inland and enjoy scenic walks, as well as tennis and bike rides. April sees average daytime highs of 19C, with 8 hours of sunshine, and there is just 30mm of rain during the month. By May the temperature has risen to 23C, with the sun shining for 10 hours each day. There is little humidity and conditions are quite dry, with the month seeing just 13mm of rainfall, and evening temperatures are a pleasant 15C. June rises to 28C, and in the peak season months of July and August, Almirida basks in highs of 29C and up to 13 hours of daily sunshine, and visitors flock to the sandy beaches of the region. Summer sees virtually no rain at all, just a few millimeters each month, and higher humidity, with warm evening temperatures of 21C.       

 

September experiences high temperatures of 27C, and even in October, the weather is still hot and sunny, with average daytime highs of 22C and 7 hours of sunshine. There is increased rainfall during the month, when Almirida receives a total of 77mm, with the rain continuing into the winter, and January, the wettest month, seeing 127mm. The weather is still mild during these low-season months, with November to February experiencing temperatures of between 14C - 16C.
