Horse Riding
Horse riding is extremely popular with visitors to Almeria and is definitely the most rewarding way to explore the surrounding countryside. Riders can become a cowboy for a day trekking through desert plains where many western movies were filmed or along rugged coastal paths and isolated beaches. Guided rides take in ancient rural villages, orchards and olive groves and offer a wealth of natural highlights that will ensure lasting memories of the region.

Snorkelling and scuba diving
The Costa Almeria has the best diving in Spain with the major attraction being around the spectacular Cabo de Gata national park. Abundant fish life, sunken wrecks and caves can be encountered in the waters around Almeria and will excite even the most seasoned diver. Many memorable spots can be explored and underwater pursuits remain as popular as ever.

Almeria Old Town
The elegant city of Almeria has several historic attractions to discover from its ancient Moorish and Roman past. The focal point of the old town is the imposing castle of Alcazabar which was constructed in the 10th century and one of the most important fortresses in southern Spain. A visit to the cathedral of Almeria is a must and houses many ancient relics and religious artefacts. A leisurely afternoon could be spent strolling the old town with its charming shops and numerous traditional tapas bars.

Desert Trip
Take a journey into the desert plains surrounding Almeria for a glimpse of life in the wild west - this is the place where many western movies were filmed. Old film sets have been turned into mini theme parks and offer a range of fun and entertainment for all the family. Further exploration of the arid desert terrain can be enjoyed on horseback or by jeep safari and provides fantastic vistas of a totally unique landscape.

Hiking
The Costa Almeria has literally hundreds of walking routes for all levels of fitness that showcase the incredible variety of landscape in the region. Established pathways cover mountains, beaches, cliff tops, desert valleys and woodland all affording spectacular views of the Mediterranean. Guided hiking is extremely rewarding and immensely popular and the ideal way to see the real Spain.

Cabo de Gata National Park
Every holiday to Almeria should include a visit to this stunning natural area. Its biodiversity encompasses idyllic beaches, salt water lagoons, caves, mountains and hidden rural villages. It has excellent snorkelling opportunities and several laid back beach resorts in which to spend a few days of pure relaxation. Bird watching, hiking and rugged outdoor pursuits can all be enjoyed and it offers stunning natural beauty on a grand scale.
