The fashionable town of Almancil is just 3km from the luxury development of Quinta do Lago, an immaculately planned establishment covering two thousand acres of lush greenery, offering upmarket accommodation, including a 5 star hotel. Quinta do Lago is a haven for sports enthusiasts, with four 18-hole golf courses, and activities including tennis, squash, horse-riding and clay-pigeon shooting on offer. Watersports are available on the fresh-water lake, and the lovely long sandy beach, accessed by a bridge over the Ria Formosa National Park, provides hours of entertainment. Almancil is also close to the upscale resort of Vale do Lobo, with its’ wonderful sandy beach, and extensive choice of private villas, shops, bars and restaurants, and Dunas Douradas, in between Quinata do Lago and Vale do Lobo, with its’ undulating sand dunes set in acres of beautiful scenic pine forests.

Almancil is known for its’ fantastic restaurants, and offers not only traditional Portuguese specialities, but a wide variety of international food as well, including French, Italian and Indian. Shopping facilities at Almancil are excellent, with a good choice of chic boutiques, jewelers, furnishing stores and antique shops. The 18th century church at Sao Lourenco, east of Almancil town centre, is worth a visit, its’ interior covered with the beautiful blue-glazed tiles of the area. In addition to the wealth of activities on offer in Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, a large go-karting track in Almancil is a popular tourist attraction and provides fun for all the family.
