The lighthouse at Alleppey, once so instrumental in its’ busy trading days and boasting a 140-year history, still stands proudly on the beach, and boating trips are available from the pier. Holidays to Alleppey - Home of the famous Nehru Trophy Boat Race
Alleppey is famous for the annual snake-boat race, the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, which is held on the second Saturday of every August. Established in 1952 to celebrate the visit of Indias’ first Prime Minister, the race draws visitors from all over the world and is the biggest tourist attraction in Alleppey. Over one hundred oarsmen man the magnificent and impressive snake-boats, once used as battleships, and the event is considered the most colourful and exciting water-sport in Kerala.
