Excursions
There are various boat trips and excursions departing from Alghero. South of the resort lies Bosa, a historical coastal town that is popular with tourists. Another fashionable excursion is a visit to ‘Grotta di Nettuno’, otherwise known as Neptune's Grotto. This series of sea caves lies beneath the Cappo Caccia and makes a fascinating day trip.

Jewellery
Known as the Riviera del Corallo, Alghero is famous for its coral based jewellery which divers retrieve from the waters surrounding Alghero. In its purest form, the coral has the appearance of a tree branch until it can be reworked into the necessary shapes for rings, necklaces, precious beads and earrings.

Beaches
Alghero has some of the most impressive beaches in Sardinia, with one of the finest located at Capo Caccio which provides excellent sunset views and blue flag swimming. Alghero has two other impressive beaches to the north near Stintono known as Spiaggia di San Giovanni and Spiaggia di Maria Pia. For a relaxing beach right on your doorstep, it is advisable to stay in the Lido area which has its own beach running from Alghero to Fertilia.

Historical Sites
There are many historic monuments to see in Alghero including a collection of churches, cathedrals and museums. Amongst the most popular are the 16th century ‘Cattedrale de Santa Maria’, the ‘Torre Porta’, and the ‘Chiesa di San Francesco’. The whole of the old town is sheltered within the fortress walls which will provide you with views of both the Mediterranean Sea and of course back into Alghero.

Restaurants
Alghero has a whole host of restaurants, bars and cafés to suit everyone. The local delicacy throughout Sardinia is as you can guess seafood, with Catalan Lobster a particular favourite. The quality of restaurants in and around Alghero is very high and will provide you with a real taste of Sardinia.
