The weather in the Algarve attracts huge numbers of tourists every year, with this popular region in southern Portugal enjoying long dry summers with high temperatures, and mild winters with limited rainfall. Although the Algarve sits on the Atlantic, and not the Mediterranean, it boasts over 3,000 hours of sun every year, making it one of the sunniest places in Europe, and an ideal climate for sun-seekers and beach-lovers.

The Algarve has one of the most stable climates in the world, with its moderate and gentle weather, influenced by factors such as both the Atlantic and Mediterranean seas and its proximity to North Africa, making it an ideal year-round tourist destination. Temperatures in the summer months can reach as high as 30C, with the average for July and August averaging out at 27-28C, and the area enjoying up to 12 hours of sunshine every day. Winds tend to keep the temperatures down a little, and these coastal breezes can sometimes be quite strong. During the spring and autumn months the temperatures in the Algarve reach a pleasant 17-19C, and these mild days, accompanied with plenty of sunshine, prove to be the best time for touring and sporting activities.

Popular in the winter months, the Algarve sees temperatures in December and January averaging out at about 15C, with crisp bright days still receiving about 6  hours of sunshine a day. The Algarve usually sees rain between November and March, on average about 50 days during the whole year, with the rainfall helping to maintain the areas' rich tropical landscapes.
