Weather in Aghios Nikolaos - Great conditions for a beach holiday
Located on the island's north-east coast, just 10km from the resort of Elounda, Aghios Nikolaos experiences a typically-Mediterranean climate, which helps to attract many visitors each year. Like most resorts on Crete, the town experiences a longer than usual tourist season running from April to October, thanks to the island's extreme southerly location.

Aghios Nikolaos Weather - Long tourist season on Crete's north-east coast
The season begins in April, with daytime highs of 19C and 8 hours of sunshine, with this early spring weather ideal for sightseeing and exploring, as the island is in bloom at this time and the green countryside full of colourful wild flowers. As there is little rain at this time, just 36mm during the month, conditions are perfect for outdoor activities such as walking, biking and tennis. However as the evening temperatures only reach 11C, nights can be chilly. May heats up to 23C, and by June the average daytime highs in Aghios Nikolaos reach 26C and the sun is shining for 10 - 12 hours each day. Peak season months see great conditions for relaxing on the beach, and with water temperatures of 25C, most visitors enjoy a multitude of boat trips, as well as swimming and water sports. July and August are extremely dry, with as little as 2mm of rainfall during these months, and the height of the summer generally seeing high humidity. The resort is affected by some strong winds that blow from the mainland, which do help to temper the heat and keep conditions more comfortable.
