Countryside
Aghia Triada is a calm and tranquil village at the foot of Mount Psiloritis, and is ideal for those looking for a rural base with plenty of natural beauty. The region boasts lush countryside, home to local wildlife and Mediterranean shrubs and greenery, and exudes a quiet and peaceful charm.
 
Walking & Hiking
The area is perfect for walking and hiking, with plenty of footpaths and trails to follow through the wooded landscapes, which offer spectacular views. Cycling is also a great way to get out and explore the region.   
 
Archaeological Sites
The most famous attraction of Aghia Triada is the Minoan Palace, a small but interesting archaeological site in the village. Other historical sites for visitors to tour include the larger Phaestos, just nearby, and the famous Knossos, close to Heraklion.
 
Beaches
Visitors can head just 4km to the coast for some relaxing sunbathing, with nearby sandy beaches including Adele and Platanes. This part of the north coast can be explored for hidden coves and secluded bays.
 
Activities & Water Sports
The emphasis is on relaxation in Aghia Triada, however many of the village's private villas and holiday homes have swimming pools, there is bike rental available, and water sports can be enjoyed at Platanias
 
Rethymnon
The historic town of Rethymonon, just 12km away, offers an interesting day out, with its lively harbour and charming Venetian and Turkish architecture, and boasts excellent shopping and dining.  
 
Day Trips
Other day trips include a visit to the capital city, Heraklion, or Chania in western Crete, boat trips from Rethymnon, such as fishing trips or a coastal ride out to Spinalonga Island, or an excursion to the Samaria Gorge.
