General Things To Do Weather
Beaches
Acoteias is just minutes away from one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve, Praia de Falesias. Miles of golden sand set against a backdrop of red sandstone cliffs and washed by gentle, crystal clear sea. This Blue Flag beach has a children’s playground and plenty of watersports throughout the summer months. Further away lie all kind of beaches – the Algarve has over 100 miles of them – from rocky bays to the west to the flatter gentler beaches to the east.

Golf
The Algarve is a golfers’ paradise, although you would have to spend more than a fortnight here just to play the courses around Acoteias. Right next door is Pine Cliffs, a 9-hole course with a spectacular last hole known as the Devil’s Parlour as it’s over a ravine with views down to the beach below. The grounds also have tennis courts. The nearby golfing centre of Vilamoura boasts six superb courses - which include the Arnold Palmer-designed Oceânico Victoria Golf Club - offering all kinds of challenges and settings, as well as pro shops, hire facilities, practice greens and, of course, lessons.

Family Fun
There is plenty nearby to occupy children of all ages. Aqualand has adrenaline rides, a surf beach, the ‘Kamikaze’ slide, and an infant park. Slide and Splash has everything from gentle baby slides to breathtaking rides as well as landscaped gardens to recover in. Zoomarine has a water park, a mini funfair and SeaWorld where you can swim with dolphins. Krazy World has a petting farm with goats, deer and llamas, 18-hole krazy golf courses, a funfair and Amazonia featuring macaws, turtles and live shows with crocodiles and alligators.

Nightlife
Acoteais is a relaxed, get-away-from-it-all resort, although anyone looking for the kind of nightlife not found in the local hotels has only to travel the short distance to Albufeira to find cocktail bars and clubs with DJs playing music to suit all tastes along the vibrant Strip.

Faro
There’s much more to Faro than just the airport and it’s well worth visiting to wander around the charming cobbled streets and squares of the walled Old Town, tour the Se Cathedral, which dates back to the C13th and offers plenty of architectural interest and views over the town, and enjoy the many cafes and restaurants.

Algarve Interior
The Serra de Monchique is a mountain conservation area less than an hour’s drive away. It’s a superb location for horse riding, cycling and hiking – or just relaxing in a spa. Going east, the 1½ hour journey to Alcoutim takes in some superb countryside, and the town, which nestles above the Rio Guadiana, offers picture postcard views across the river to Spain.
