ABTA & FTO Complete Merger - Tue. 01 Jul. 2008
ABTA and the FTO have officially merged today, creating a ‘powerful and authoritative voice’ for the travel industry. It is claimed that the experience and knowledge of the FTO in operational issues would complement ABTA’s role in financial protection and consumer standards.
ABTA Forecast 2008 Holiday Trends - Wed. 19 Dec. 2007
ABTA has forecasted a set of holiday trends suggesting that forthcoming events in 2008 will play a big part in generating tourism. With almost 70 million holidays abroad taken by UK residents in 2007, the numbers are set to increase into 2008, with Portugal and Turkey holidays providing early signs of particularly encouraging bookings.

ABTA & ATOL have together launched a travel industry climate programme called ‘Reduce My Footprint’. The programme is set to offer advice and information to businesses and consumers on how they can help reduce carbon emissions.

ABTA have advised that they are aware of the fact that many customers credit and debit cards have been refused while on holiday and remind customers that some credit card companies need their customers to advise them if they’re going to be using their cards abroad.
ABTA Appoint New Board Members - Fri. 27 Jul. 2007
Lastminute.com director of travel John Bevan and former Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) president Steven Freudmann of Majestic Travel have been added to the board of ABTA. A third appointment will also be made as the board is slimmed down to a total of nine directors instead of 18 after a vote to change ABTA's board structure was passed in April.
